Caption
Indonesia is the world’s second-largest fish producer, and 80% of fishing is small-scale, artisanal fishing. In collaboration with local nonprofits and the Indonesian government, this fishery became the world’s first handline yellowfin tuna fishery to achieve MSC certification. One of these fishermen, Umar, takes us out on a tuna boat to see what handline fishing is like and tells us why this fishery is putting sustainability first.
